Almost fifty years ago I came across a book about what we, the American people, had learned from the Vietnam war. What made the biggest impression on me was the statement the the Army isn’t the government (administration) but is the Army of We, the American People. We only lend it to the government as needed and the government must ask our permission to use it. This was not done with Vietnam and this was one of the reasons the anti-war movement grew so fast.
What was said then about the American Army can also said about the Department of Justice. Like the military, Americans have a love/hate relationship with the DOJ. The DOJ is probably the second most powerful agency of the government and we rightly see it as “Ours”. We do not want it to do the biding of the President, nor the Congress, we insist it do “our” biding. An our biding is to see that “justice is done without fear or favor”.
This was why, when Donald Trump, accused it of being weaponized people listened. But, unfortunately for both Pres. Trump and the MAGAT party, we are still listening and we do not like what we are hearing. We do not like the DOJ being used to arrange Quid Pro Quo with the Mayor of NYC. Nor do we like it when someone thinks we are too stupid to see what is going on in front of us. In less than a month you have done so much it cannot be ignored. It can’t be “explained” away. The American people are starting to see what you are doing.
The American people are often slow to anger, but we will eventually get there and you will not like what happens. This is not about Conservative Vs Liberal. Not “Red vs Blue”. We see what it is about and who it is about. We will do something about this and you will not like it.
